Dear Sir Jim Ratcliffe, I don’t pay you to sit at home all day watching men playing in boats and then hitting tennis balls around in the blazing sun of the Antipodes, with TV pictures showing an apparently immune crowd sipping cocktails on the poop deck or whatever. It’s Saturday and I demand racing tips.  Yours quite crossly, Mrs Trellis of North Wales.

Well Mrs Trellis, sadly I have to correct you on a couple of points. You don’t pay me and that isn’t a poop deck. Also, Sir Jim owns Ineos which cost £110m, and he turned down the opportunity to buy Raceweb for 11gns, which I suggest shows a lack of his normally sound commercial judgement. But I confess I am at fault, as I believed Naas would fail its inspection and the first two televised races at Lingfield had two men and a dog competing.  None the less I am here to serve you Mrs Trellis and all your other Welsh compatriots. Can I replace the boss at KPMG on the strength of that apology?

Talking of a truly appalling service; here are today’s racing tips:

1:40 NAAS BBA Ireland Limited Opera Hat Mares Chase (Listed Race) (5yo+) 2m

The favourite who is a leading fancy for The Ryanair will probably win, but the selection has good form in better races than this and 4s is a reasonable price.

YUKON LIL win

2:00 LINGFIELD (AW) Get Your Ladbrokes Daily Odds Boost Handicap Cl3 (3yo 0-95) 6f

CHARLIE FELLOWES Win

2:15 NAAS Naas Handicap Chase (5yo+ 0-130) 2m4½f

Drops back in trip, and easier opposition, and ground to suit, should have a positive effect on the selection. The return to blinkers might help get him over the line.

MINELLA TILL DAWN e/w

2:35 LINGFIELD (AW) Bombardier British-Hopped Amber Beer Handicap Cl4 (4yo+ 0-80) 1m

This mare by Sakhee’s Secret is 2/3, with both wins over C&D and given that she’s won both close-up, the handicapper might not have her measure yet.

ACCOMPLICE winCRACKLING to beat ACCOMPLICE 2pts SFC

2:50 NAAS Naas Rated Novice Hurdle (4yo) 1m7½f

3:10 LINGFIELD (AW) Betway Casino Handicap Cl5 (4yo+ 0-70) 1m2f

HELP KEEP THE RACEWEB VOICE ALIVE

Annual domain registrations, site hosting, software licences, form guides, research costs and a host of other minor and but not inconsequential outgoings are the burden for all website owners.

Even the smallest donation can make the difference between the Off and On switch.

It’s not just that once in a while we actually prove accurate, and you possibly make a bit of pocket money, but occasionally, we might perhaps suggest a view that could possibly change someone’s mind. For the better.

That’s a lot of Maybes and Possiblies, but sometimes we have to try and change a plan or encourage them to move a mountain, and if that means we make you smile, or shout with anger, or shake with laughter, then Huzzah!

That’s your donation that did that. Thank You.
