Back home, exhausted but so pleased to have seen so many chums, all looking so well. Back to unpacking and admiring the newly painted east-wing bathroom. Back to demanding emails and for The Hon unpacking and dog-whispering. Back to simple foods as well.

Pemmican hash and ketchup and some left-over treacle tart and cream. If you’re uncertain of Pemmican, it is mentioned extensively in Swallows and Amazons, but of course, it isn’t real Pemmican which is horrid – but Bully Beef aka Tinned Corned Beef – the food of heroes, adventurers and people suffering from a surfeit of generosity.

No, no I insist… the recipe is thus. It is chopped raw onions, leftover mashed potato, old greens and browning lettuce wilted in the fridge, all fried off in butter and olive oil. Add chilli flakes to taste, and adjust the seasoning. Open a can of Corned Beef and tip into the frying mixture – and then mash that in as well. Cook and flip. Cook and flip until you have brown flaky bits on what is now a hash. If you added beetroot – that would make it Red-Flannel Hash. Serve with Lea and Perrins if required, in front of crap television and breathe out. The decadent amongst you can fry a Gulls Egg and serve on top. I have, in the past, added capers and jalapenos, but it didn’t really work.

Talking of things that aren’t to everyone’s taste – but you might feel compelled to try – today at Goodwood and on ITV we have:

HELP KEEP THE RACEWEB VOICE ALIVE

Annual domain registrations, site hosting, software licences, form guides, research costs and a host of other minor and but not inconsequential outgoings are the burden for all website owners.

Even the smallest donation can make the difference between the Off and On switch.

It’s not just that once in a while we actually prove accurate, and you possibly make a bit of pocket money, but occasionally, we might perhaps suggest a view that could possibly change someone’s mind. For the better.

That’s a lot of Maybes and Possiblies, but sometimes we have to try and change a plan or encourage them to move a mountain, and if that means we make you smile, or shout with anger, or shake with laughter, then Huzzah!

That’s your donation that did that. Thank You.
