I had a terrible first few days at Royal Ascot. Having researched all the races well in advance I developed a huge reserve of confidence about the wisdom of my selections. Then the rain came and I found myself reluctant to review matters based on the change in conditions – very much the wrong decision.

Much less work has gone into today’s choices but at least they have been done in full knowledge that the hallowed turf is very soft and, indeed, heavy in places. The latter factor applies to the round course so is relevant to the 14:35, 15:45 and 16:20.

14:35 TRIBAL CRAFT 1pt e/w

Almania is the best horse in this race and being by Australia should be able to handle the ground and to stay this distance. Just Hubert also catches the eye but I am going to take a risk on Tribal Craft. He was unlucky at Chester when held up and now he is back with his regular partner David Probert will benefit from being allowed to be upon with the pace.

15:45 DARKSIDEOFARNSIDE 1pt e/w

16:55 ROULSTON SCAR 2pts win DAZZLING DAN 1pt e/w

HELP KEEP THE RACEWEB VOICE ALIVE

Annual domain registrations, site hosting, software licences, form guides, research costs and a host of other minor and but not inconsequential outgoings are the burden for all website owners.

Even the smallest donation can make the difference between the Off and On switch.

It’s not just that once in a while we actually prove accurate, and you possibly make a bit of pocket money, but occasionally, we might perhaps suggest a view that could possibly change someone’s mind. For the better.

That’s a lot of Maybes and Possiblies, but sometimes we have to try and change a plan or encourage them to move a mountain, and if that means we make you smile, or shout with anger, or shake with laughter, then Huzzah!

That’s your donation that did that. Thank You.
