Procrastination is the thief of time: Anon
Today has been nothing but a sea of procrastinators delaying me from important business. I hope all their horses are rated 58 and only race at Chelmsford. The last and some would say the best of the Spring Festivals starts today.
3:40 Howden Insurance Brokers Mares’ Novice Hdl (4yo+) 2m½f 11 run
CLAIRMC has the look of a plot horse – indeed was accused by stewards on debut of being a non-trier. The very thought! BRIDES HILL looks value and INSTIT could be the Mullins dark horse. 4 places with Skybet
BRIDES HILL2 pts e/w – INSTIT 2 pts e/w – CLAIRMC 1pt e/w. All three with DINOBLUE for a 12 x ¼ pt CFC
4:15 Bective Stud Champion Novice Hdl (G1) (5yo+) 2m½f RTE2 5 run
DYSART DYNAMO and MIGHTY POTTER face SIR GERHARD with Paul Townend opting for the favourite over DD. Dysart’s strike rate at Punchy is 2/2 and his Festival crash was down to exuberance rather than lack of anything. If he can be settled by Patrick and stay covered up, I wouldn’t be too shocked if he squeaked in. Indeed as I suspect Sir G will try to take a lead off him, I might be inclined to drop him right out and let him become the stalker. Either way, Mighty Potter is third.

4:50 Killashee Hotel Hcap Hdl (GB) (4yo+) 2m½f RTE2 18 run
I once stayed at the Killashee, and lost a huge amount of money playing poker with, if memory serves me right, some Englishmen. Strange, I know. If only for old time’s sake I shall select…
HEARTS ARE TRUMPS 1½ pts e/w – FELIX DESJY 2 pts e/w
5:25 William Hill Champion Chs (G1) (5yo+) 2m RTE2 5 run
The bet here is whether ENVOI ALLEN’s wind op has sorted all issues out and frankly at 14/1, I’m happy to pay to find out. I adore ENERGUMENE as you all know, but I can get 6/1 with Betvictor in the Betting w/o market. No Brainer.
ENVOI ALLEN 3 pts win betting w/o ENERGUMENE.
6:00 Goffs Land Rover Bumper (4-5yo) 2m½f RTE2 15 run
KATIE TAY 3 pts e/w
6:35 Dooley Insurance Group Champion Novice Chs (G1) (5yo+) 3m½f RTE2 7 run
The application of the tongue tie suggests I was right when I suggested at Cheltenham that BOB OLINGER had breathing problems, but even so, it’s hard to see who can beat him here. Only his fourth chase start he has no hard miles on the clock and has already beaten LIFETIME AMBITION and CAPODANNO here in January. If you told me you fancied FURY ROAD to give him a fright, I wouldn’t try to dissuade you.
BOB OLINGER 4 pts Win 1pts SFC FURY ROAD
7:10 Kildare Hunt Club Cross Country Chs for the Ladies’ Perpetual Cup (5yo+) 3m1f 14 run
Forget GOOD BYE SAME, I’d have him for The Foxhunters, but not this. You can’t gnore the great man either, and given that Enda Bolger has a replica of some of the fiercer La Touche elements on his gallops, we can be assured that he’ll be trying to take this for the eighth time since 2010 with DE NORDENER. Last year’s second VITAL ISLAND is priced too skinny – why are bookmakers all accountants rather than sporting people these days? – so I’m looking elsewhere for the action. TECH TALK ran a decent 2nd in a point in march, he has six starts under rules and has age on his side. Jim Dreaper wouldn’t be here for the tickets. MICHAELS PICK also looks value, Yoiu can get 4 places with Paddy Power and Skybet.
TECH TALK 1½ pts e/w – MICHAELS PICK 2pts e/w
7:45 Mick The Tent INH Flat Race (4yo) 2m½f 15 run
ONEHELLOFAGETAWAY 1 pt win
